Landscapes

Devon and Cornwall has a lush green landscape driven by the copious quantities of rain and warm weather. Three moors dominate this area - Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor. All are wild, windswept places that produce wonderful images. In this gallery you may find images that are not often considered landscapes. I photograph interesting (to me, that is) details - such as doors and gates. In my head (not somewhere where anyone sane would wish to go) these details are what make our world - and our landscapes.

Seascapes

The north coasts of Devon and Cornwall possess some of the most awe inspiring seascapes in Europe. These are real 'wreckers' coastlines - savage rocks, rip tides, high cliffs and violent weather coming in from the Atlantic. Our ancestors used this rugged landscape to smuggle rum, brandy and other high value items - or to lure unsuspecting merchant sailing ships onto the rocks.

Woodland

The south-west is an area of high rainfall with a warm climate. It creates some stunning woodland - knarled old oak trees in the ancient temperate rain forests and isolated tress that almost grow horizontally from the high winds.

People

In this gallery you'll find both formal and informal portraiture as well as street photography. Sadly the latter is something that these days I have little time or opportunity for. It would help if I had a good EDC (Every Day Carry) camera to take advantage of street scenes when they arise. Still, there's always next Christmas!

Projects

Projects are useful things for photographers. A project is a collection of images that when brought together have a relationship to each other - a common theme or vision. They're excellent for focusing the mind - can take many years or be very short-term. They come and go as the need and personal whim dictates...

These images are hosted on Flickr. It just makes sense to place them there because they're works in (intermittent) progress. They'll open in a new tab.
